MG TD TF 1500 - Valve Cover Screws Identified
There's a question that comes up quite often about the purpose of the two screws on the left side of the valve cover. The answer has been found and documented. Look at Photo 3 on Page 14 of TTT2-Issue17. They're attached to the air cleaner of a YB. Bud |

Thanks for pointing that out! I breezed right by the photo and didn't notice it!!!!! SPW |

I confess to mis-using them for the clips holding the return water feed from the heater which was already installed in 1963. They do the job nicely. |

I used one of the unused fastener points as did Ian Bowers for the hot water line to feed my heater. I modified the elbow by attaching a fitting same as later TF cars.

Jim,,, what color did you use for the paint on your car??? SPW |
STEVE WINCZE |
Steve it is a Cadillac/Corvette metallic pewter from about 1987 maybe. I painted the car using acrylic lacquer. In retrospect, it has a bit more green tint to it in the sunlight than I really wanted. But it looks OK. |

Hi Jim Could you please tell me what your blower installation is? Many thanks Peter |

and what is the thing that looks like a filler cap between the end of the valve cover and the battery? Jud |

I dig the body color, but then I didn't go through the process of trying to find exactly what I wanted. I dig seeing non stock colors on T cars that look like they could be period or in keeping with the spirit of the car. Yours is one that fits the bill for me. I dig! Alex |

Jud, I'm sure that it is a rad overflow catch tank,,, SPW |

Bud, thanks! Jim, nice detail! |

Peter - is that an old Marshall-Nordec blower, with fragile external oil lines? They have a tendency to vibrate and break, with disastrous results. The modern blower I sell has internal oiling, and needs no service for 100,000 miles. See mgtrepair.net for details. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I will answer all the questions here. 1. The blower is a Marshall Nordec J-75 blower with a 1 1/2 inch SU carb and a modified MG TF type air filter. Suction air is fed through a line from the air cleaner to the original rubber hose attached to the rocker cover. 2. The tank is indeed a coolant overflow storage unit with a 3# cap on it. It saves the overflow coolant when the engine heats up and allows it to return to the radiator when cool. It is an air tight system that works very well to keep the coolant level always topped up and the temperature sensing bulb immersed in the coolant. The MGB tank is held in place to the battery bracket by way of home made stainless straps. 3. Alex and Dave, thanks for the compliments. 4. Steve is exactly correct. 5. Tom, is also correct but all my lines are secured from vibration by use of home made strap type clamps that keep the lines very secure. Two of the black straps can be seen anchored to the body of the blower. |
