MG TD TF 1500 - valve cover vent
I have a MG TD with a MGA 1600cc engine in it. The valve cover vent is connected to a rubber hose that is routed to the oil pan area and there it stops. I have read and seen pictures where this tube should be connected to the air filter. Question; What is the reason that the valve cover area is connected to a low air pressure area? What is the result if it is not connected to a low air pressure source? |

David - The purpose of the vent going to a low pressure air area, such as the air filter is to positively pull the fumes from the crankcase when the car is stopped with the engine running. Theoretically, the breather pipe is positioned such that when the car is moving, the air flow across it's open end creates a vacuum to pull the fumes out. What effect if the valve cover is not connected to a low pressure area? Probably nothing drastic or even observable. Good luck - Dave |
