MG TD TF 1500 - Volt Meter

When y'all install a volt meter, where do you hook up the "hot" lead? In my case the positive lead will go to earth. Can the negative go anywhere that gets juice from the battery?

Thanks.

You may elect a hot wire that gets shut down with the ignition switch, so the meter turns off when it's parked. Other than that, any wire in this category.

Jud,
Between Negative terminal on battery and position A on the control block of the regulator.

You need to put it on a switched hot lead such as the ignition switch, otherwise you will drain the battery with the 1 to 10 milliamp draw of the voltmeter.

I currently (possibly a bad choice of terms) from A to Earth (E)and it appears to work correctly. I'm avoiding the battery drain with the positive battery shut off.
Thanks.

For simplicity, I hooked mine to the power side of the coil. Easy to get at and disconnect if there is a problem.

The smallish wire size used on the TD leads to significant voltage drops if the wire you choose is on a circuit drawing current. If you want to measure the actual battery voltage be careful where you pick up the connection. Yes the connection should be after the ignition switch but I would opt for a position as close to the switch as possible.
