MG TD TF 1500 - Volt meter for MGTD
I am thinking of replacing my Ammeter with a Volt meter. Is it possible to buy a voltmeter for an MGTD that matches the faces of the original gages? Thank you, Frank Grimaldi |

If you are using the stock generator on the MG the Ammeter is the correct gauge to use. The Regulator limits the voltage thus the variable is the current. In a modern car with an alternator, the current is limited thus the voltage is the variable and that is what is monitored. |

Frank, You might just hide a voltmeter down under the dash somewhere in sight. ...might be very discrete and make it a small digital readout. An ammeter might let you know what's happening this very second, but a voltmeter can tell you the big picture. I wish more auto & offroad manufacturers stuck real meters on these days. Will add voltmeter & ammeter to my Case skidsteer loader soon; they expect us to fly blind! I added a voltmeter, as well as air/fuel ratio meter, boost gauge and a bunch of LED idiot lights (oil pressure, water temp overheat...) to our TD. Very soon, I'll stick a Bluetooth ODB2 wireless transmiter to a Honda ...read out engine functions to a laptop on the fly. I've thought about adding late model fuel injection to our TD and add all the above bells and whistles! As for a period correct matching voltmeter, can't help you. just another crosswired engineer!
