MG TD TF 1500 - water temp gauge sender
My engine died most likely as a result of overheating around 1 & 2 cylinders... A major blockage in the water passages was undetected ... The water meter had no useful info because the sender unit is at the radiator, not the block. Has anyone considered moving the sender to block? |

My sender is in the thermostat housing and I believe is original. I had to solder a boss into the radiator for the sensor for the electric fan. Jan T |

Hi, On my TD I have the elbow pipe system from a TF. An output is provided on the left side with a plug. I plugged the sensor to this output which is upstream the thermostat. And put the plug on the radiator. Very easy and efficient. What is meaningful is the head temperature. On another car without any thermal sensor, I bought an electric thermometer for a kitchen oven. I glued the sensor directly on the head. My measurements on both cars show that when everything is OK and the thermostat is open, the water temperature on the top of the radiator is equal to the head temperature (less than one degree different). But in case of failure, the head temperature is much more reliable. Laurent. |
