MG TD TF 1500 - Went for a drive Friday
Brother inlaw in the Boxter if front of me. What am I driving? Hint...it's a lot quicker than a TD/TF.

Based on the color I would guess it starts with the letter "F" and speaks Italian? Let's see more! |

If it was faster than a TD, I'd guess a new Aveo-in red yet. dan |

Nice 360. How did it drive? Paddle shifters or lever? Does that have the cool sounding flat crank V-8 in it, which sounds nothing like a "regular" V-8? George |

Understand the service manuals and on-line forums are in Italian--this link may help. http://learnitalian.elanguageschool.net/ Ciao, vecchio uomo. Dan |

Paddle shift. Took a while to figure it out. Kicks itself into neutral if you sit at a light long enough. Lot of lights /stop and go to get out of town. Didn't really hammer it till after I drove it for about an hour. Power really comes on at about 4 grand and keeps winding like theres no tomorrow to 8500 shift. Never got it over 4 grand in town. Just to quick for that. Very comfortable and the engine sound is like nothing you've ever heard.

Way t'go LaVerne. I was hopeful that you might post of photo or two of this lovely machine. I trust that you had a toast or two of your favorite beverage to having treated yourself to such a fun and exhilarating (or should that be accelerating?) ride. I assume the weather conditions were perfect too, warm and dry so tires were sufficiently sticky. Cheers and bravo -- John |

Did it follow you home? Did you get to keep it? |
Dave Braun |
Yeah, I had mre than a few frosty beverages while in Vegas. Got say Dave, I'd trade all three of the MG's for it but it's priced way out of my budget.

nice car but nothing for american roads with a 55 mph speed limit ;-) Here in Germany there are still some highways without any speed limitations, thats were you can drive such a car. I'll give you my address, you can ship the car to me and I'll send you a video back while I enjoy the beauty. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) Cheers, Guenter |

Looks good on ya LaVerne! At first glance (2nd picture) I thought you were being issued a "blue light special". Soooo ....what did you top her out at? |
David Sheward |
I agree Guenter. Ship the Autoban over here and I'll test it out. Only got it up to 125 Dave. Was worried about doing jail time and that was about all the traffic would allow. I think the paddle shifters (no clutch) are the answer to your clutch issues in the TF. Now if we can just squeeze that prancing horse in there. |
LaVerne Downey |
I'm dissapointed ...expected you to break 200. Only 10 MPH more than my best "callabrated" tyme in the TF. Hmmm a mid-engine TF... |

Great ride Laverne. I had the opportunity to rent a 911 in Stutgart Germany back in 98. You could actually rent these things thru Avis at the Stutgart airport using airport transfers tonbridge. We took it on the autoban and got it up to 150, what a rush. I was done but the car wasn't. But the best part of the 3 day tour was taking this baby to the Nurburgring. I let it out (the best I could)on a very difficult track. I think about 17 turns and I don't know how many elevation changes. After the 3rd run I truly wanted a cigarette but I don't smoke. Needless to say a trip to remember. Came home bought a Boxter. Dan H. |
