MG TD TF 1500 - Wet spark plugs
Okay. I haven't seen anyone else talk about this problem, so I have to ask. I find that my spark plugs are wet. I try to start my car and it won't fire, if I remove the spark plugs and dry them with a torch.. re install and it fires up right away. Since I am aware of this I am very careful to watch how I start the car. Turn on ignition, fuel pump works, try and start - I don't touch the gas but they are wet. Any ideas? Richard |

Hi Richard, sounds as if it's flooded. That usually means too much choke. Also if I tried to start my car without any throttle it would not start either. Just try using less choke with a quarter throttle and see if that makes a difference. Cheers, Paul. |

have you recently rebuilt your carbs? changed float level? if the needles are bad consider replacing with grosse jets (spelling???) tom |

What plugs are you running? Points or pertronix? Plug wires? Coil? I think I would look at all of that before making carb adjustments....dependent on when carbs were worked on last, of course. No offense intended here, but...some of the "plug wire kits" sold for these cars are "junk"! How does your spark look? If week, get a good set of "Lucas Bumble-Bees" on it first. I went through 3 of the "kits" in less than a year and would not use that wire on my weed-wacker again! Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |
