MG TD TF 1500 - What gets painted in engine compartment
Restoring 1954 mgtf black with red interior. Pulled engine and took everything apart. Is there a guide as to what in the engine compartment was originally painted and what color? The block is red along with other items. Does the oil pan get painted? How about the starter? They seem to be aluminum and my sense is they were originally not painted. |

Hi Ed, Great to see you concerned about getting the correct detail in the close fitting engine bay area. Now is the time to attend to this aspect on TF's as you have probably realised you need "knitting needle fingers"to work on them once the motor is back in the car!So many cars are 'over-chromed'in this area of restoration, although each to his/her own as they say! I nearly completed the detail on our current TF 18 months ago but have one item to go-obtaining or making up the correct PurOlator decal for the hrizontal oil filter canister. Cheers Rob.G. |
