MG TD TF 1500 - What hardware is missing?
On the bottom of my TD's headlamp rims and buckets, there are holes that look like a screw, and clamp of some kind, hold the bottom of the rim in place...What hardware should be there, as my rims are loose, even with the top bracket screwed all the way up.....I may have lost those pieces, so photo would be very helpful. Thanks Edward |

My rims slide into a slot at the bottom with a screw and clip at the top of the bucket (no mount holes in the rim). With all the problems your having I'm thinking maybe the rims are from another application/car. Mike |

Now I realize that when I sent the rims to the chromer, they polished off the riveted catch on the bottom....Never said anything about the parts...Those SOB's have cost me many hundreds of extra dollars... Where does the screw go? Maybe I can make a catch of some kind. Photo at another angle would help. Thanks Edward |

Mike Can you give me the inside diameter of your rim?....I think mine are too large for the buckets...I didn't notice it when I took it apart, but now it is obvious. Thanks Edward |

Edward Can you give us the name of the chromer? Regards, Rich |

Email me, and I will let you know....Not healthy to say online. Edward |

Well, mystery almost solved! I called the chrome guy today, and told him that the rims weren't the right ones.... He called me back, and said the chrome shop had my rims sitting on the shelf, and they didn't know who they belonged to....The person that owns the rims that I have, had also contacted them about his.... I have tried to research the rims to see what make of car they go to, but haven't found them yet. Makes me feel less like a complete dummy (not entirely, anyway). Thanks for help . Edward |

Update: My rims may come from an Austin Mini Cooper. I found a picture on ebay that looks just like them. Edward |

"I called the chrome guy today, and told him that the rims weren't the right ones...." Sounds like my experience years ago when a top rated chrome plating shop sent me back a beautifully plated hood center strip - just wasn't the one I sent them for a MGTD. It was about 4 inches too short, but nicer with a rib down its center, and tapered in width from the windshield end to the front. I called them and they said they "may" have mixed up some parts :^(, and to send it back, and when it's owner contacted them they would get mine. My reply was to let me know when the other owner contacted them and we would swap. I have not heard from either of them again on this subject. I still have a very nice hood center strip for some type of 30s car- maybe a 32 Ford. |

Yeah...I was hesitant to send the ones I had, but they were doing me absolutely no good, and if I don't get mine back, I'll be throwing more money down the hole....Not to mention the $100 or so it cost to re-chrome them! I'll post when (and if), I get mine returned. These are the little things that make life so interesting! Edward |
