MG TD TF 1500 - What is it?

Ran across some pics of a seemingly well-restored car. I can't figure out what that squarish thing is next to the fuel pump. Anyone know?

David Littlefield

Dunno, but at the risk of being accused of a hijack it's nice to see the fuel line clipped & secured! Oddly enough in Green's book the bottom hole is not shown & the top one is listed as unused, but I always thought they were most probably originally provided for this purpose. I can only recall seeing one car here with the fuel line secured as shown. Cheers

Hard to tell, but it looks like a spare lamp bulb holder. Interesting.

"I can't figure out what that squarish thing is next to the fuel pump"

Not sure, but it looks like some kind of a load resistor. It does not look like it is wired to anything.

Of absolutely no consequent, the coil housing on the fuel pump is rotated about 60° from where is should be (should be right over the inlet fitting of the pump). It is also a new pump. Cheers - Dave

I believe this is a dropping resistor to allow a 6 volt accessory, maybe an older radio to be used. It looks like one I had in the 60s - Lou VanK

I agree with Lou. I had one on a 63 Sprite that allowed me to cut in a positive ground 6 volt radio from a Hudson Jet we had sitting in the yard.

"Dropping resistor" my guess as well. Had one that looked just like it in my Bug-Eye years ago.

Period drop resistors that I have seen were black and tubular, with a finned surface.

Module could be a component of a vehicle alarm system wired thru the bulkhead.

I changed from 6 volt to 12 volt on one of my old tractors and this is the exact make of what I used to keep 6 volts to the distributor and coil on a 12 volt system. They do come in many shapes and sizes. PJ
