MG TD TF 1500 - What is this Distributor from?
In my quest to find parts for my TD that are correct for an Oct 1950 car, I have been looking for a distributor that is date close. The one in my car is dated 9-48.
I picked up this one off Ebay. My distributor is DKY4A 40048D Under that is DA34 arrow 9 48. On the one I picked up it is DKY4A 481937 Under this is AA61 arrow and no numbers I can identify. The numbers/letters are also in a smaller font. The other thing is the shaft. Instead of a gear, this dist. has a flat pin that fits into a knotch, similar to the MGB. It looks like the pin can be taken off and the TD gear put on. Everything else is exactly the same. I am assuming the DKY4A was used on other British Cars. Any thoughts on what is is from? I am going to send both to Jeff Schlemmer to have him hopefully use the body of the one without the date and parts from my other one. |

Hi Bruce. This is from my list of LUCAS dizzys. Yours is from a TC. My list doesn't show any numbers as high as 481937. The TC and TD dizzys are listed below with the 40162 shown as a replacement for the 40048. It seems that it's not impossible that yours may even be original to the car. I've been right through the huge LUCAS list and have made a short list of those applicable to MG's. I can send it to you if you'd like a copy.
40048A/F DKY4A CW 279 15 1948-49 MG TC superceeded by 40162 40162A/E DXY4A CW 279 15 1939 Lanchester, MG, Wolseley 1939 Lanchester, 1949-50 MG 1.5 litre tourer, 1939 12, 1939-52 midget, 1939-40 Wolseley 10, 1947-53 MG TC/TD Replaces 40048. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Hi Peter. Most appreciate the information. I would love a copy. cunhab52@gmail.com Here is a close up of the number on the new dist. Te last digit is unclear. I am guessing at 7. The fact it does not have a date stamp, and the small font are interesting. Do the bottom left numbers indicate anything? |

Bruce you have mail. I can't assist with decoding the numbers other than what is provided in the list e.g. DOR, ECM curve, RPM and advance data and the makes, years and models they were fitted to. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Bruce, Looking at the Lucas parts manual, I think that the correct ID for your distributor is 40193A It replaces 409642 which was fitted to a Wolseley 8hp 1946 - 1948. More info: Model AA61 ECM curve Number 403 Rotation Clockwise Advance range 11° - 13° John |

John, that helps remind us that Lucas listed rotation from the driven end. Ray |

The list I have shows 40193A/B DKY4A CW 403 12 1946-48 Wolseley 8. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

You folks are good. Yes the second number could very well be a 0. The last could also be a B, but that is hard to confirm. So how rare is a Wosley 8hp? Worth advertizing it for that car and looking for another 1950? I only paid $40 for this one. Hi Gordon. I would be interested if it has a build date in 1950. |
