MG TD TF 1500 - What Is This Part?
See the attached picture of a part that was fastened to the firewall of my TF1500. What is this? it was positioned vertically. Thanks, Mike Davis

I do not recognise it as a factory fitting. Maybe an incomplete mount for a cheap fire extinguisher (wild guess). Looks like something clips in. Cheers, Matthew. |

Mike, Doesn’t look familiar to me; can you take a photo of it in place? |
David Werblow |
It was mounted vertically right in front of the battery box on one of the bolts that retains the fume excluder for the steering column. I can get a picture later when I get back to the garage. Thanks, Mike. |

Mike, It's cross stitch calendar pattern from 1960 or 1988... possibly earlier. Can't imagine what it was doing in your TF. Hanging vertically, it must have really been flapping. It's a wonder you didn't notice it sooner. warmly, dave |

Somebody bend a battery retaining bar ??? to fit a smaller battery? |

I really liked the calendar comment, as I can use it as a flag! I have shop rags as old as some cars. Maybe the bracket was used to hold a tire pump in front of the battery. I have box of stuff (the car was in boxes) that includes tools and there is a ratty tire pump in there. Attached is recent progress status. Mike

Nice engine area... What is the Brand name, color, shade and #'s of the engine paint, please... Does this paint 'run' when exposed to coolant or under bonnet fluids...? It's best to discover this, now, before re-assembly. Please advise. DrRx. TD #0823 Looks reddish from here...Calif.... |

Mike, nice car. It is amazing how many cars are coming along. Congratulations for maintaining the breed. A lot of people are rightfully unhappy about Moss' engine paint. Me too. I have found though that a bit sprayed on paper and then brushed on a cleaned off engine surface does wonders to repair the discoloration. Takes as little as 10 minutes. warmly, dave |

It's the standard Moss paint on the engine (220-510). I am not sure it will hold up as there are only 2 hours break-in on the engine, but I have it on there now! Some of it took a long time to cure and it still feels a little soft in places. Mike |

I am always impressed with folks that do a black car. Black is the hardest color to use. If there are any imperfections, black amplify s them. But then, it is such a great look. I have the TD sales brochure that has a black TD with a tan top and windows up. Very sharp. |

Dave....mine too for a year or two! I love the car even more with the top up..... Notice the artist made it much more aggressive with larger tires? Would love to ship my car over just to set this one up....... |

Now that would be an expensive photo... I should think it would be easier to get the Shaw to do a play where that kind of set would be required... |
