MG TD TF 1500 - What sparkplug can be used?
I'm restoring a 1954 mgtf. It had Champion L87TC spark plugs in it. Can't seem to find anywhere. I ordered a set of replacements about 2 years ago (I think from Moss) and I was sent Denso, ND W20EXR-U plugs, made in Japan. They fit in the holes, but they are a deeper (longer threads)plug than the Champions. Anybody have recomendations/advise? |

Hi Alan, this subject has been comprehensively covered in the past. I suggest you check the archives and all will be revealed. Cheers, Paul. |

I was going to make a new post but I will ride the coattails of this one. What is a good plug to use on the TD engine? |

For a TF, you should be using 3/4 inch reach plugs. The numbers have changed several times but in Champion I use a RN5C (Yes the resistor plug to reduce radio interference). This is the proper replacement, other brands have an equivalent. For the TD, you need to check whether you have an early head (Banana holes, 1/2 inch reach) or a late head (round holes, 3/4 inch reach, RN5C plug) |

Chaps, My '53 TF runs fine on NGK BP6ES. I prefer the Japanese plugs to the Champions. AB |
