MG TD TF 1500 - What's the deal with the grab handles?
I've seen grab handles installed on several TDs at a show. I assume they weren't original to the car. Were they a dealer option? Are they considered an option that distracts from the originality of the car? I'm not looking to have a concours car just want something that would have a been a reasonably equipped car back in the day. Tim TD12524 |

There are many different styles of grab handles listed and shown in contemporary ads; some have the MG crest, others don't; some are curved, some straight. They are all period options, but none from the factory. No lowering of value, except perhaps on a 100% point show car. The grab handles are indeed helpful, but anchor them better than just a couple of flimsy wood screws, which can pull right out of the dash. I bolt them through the dash with stainless machine screws. I have a 50's racer that has handles for both passenger and driver! Tom Lange MGT Repair |

TF's came from the factory with grab handles. Even though I am 99.9% done with my restoration, I have not re-installed the grab handle. My wife is constantly reaching out for it. They make sense. Tom |

My passenger/navigator is very fond of the grab handles. I also put one on the driver's side just for symmetry. They're Moss since originality doesn't matter. Jud

Tom: You, if anyone, should mention the Mk 2 grab handle :-) |

I figured he didn't have either a Mark II OR a TF, so I should limit my comments to regular TD information. Sorry for the omissions! Tom |

Tim: Anything here would be considered appropriate. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_accessories.htm |

Chris, since I bought the TD I must have been to your site a hundred times. This is the first time I saw that page. What an incredible job to put all that information together on one web site. Thank you. Tim TD12524 |

"Anything here would be considered appropriate". This would include my roller lifter camshaft kit reproduced by me, with help from my mentors Chet Herbert & Dennis Barbaria. Abingdon Performance 914 420 8699 |

The world would be a much less loving place without grab handles. ....just say'in. . |

Indeed, Mr. Andrus! I loves them grab handles!! :D |

I have found that the simple curved grab handle is the most comfortable to use. The MG embossed ones seem too shallow and are not quite as comfortable to me. Just my experience. I will try to load a photo of the simple curved style handle - once I take the photo. |

Here is one that needs to be re-chromed

I like those curved ones also. Any idea who sells them? |

I agree with DLD. I looked at the ones on eBay before I purchased one. I liked the curved ones. I purchased one of the Curved handles on ebay for a "generous" price. I found I needed to curve it a bit more to match the "pre-fitted" holes in my dash cover. Then I had it re-plated since it looked dull against the engine turned SS. Note Wear dark glasses when looking at the picture, and that was before I added the MG steering wheel center hub and shift knob. Jim B. |

That could be interesting at night time with a truck behind you. Matthew. |

These are the O-Sh*t handles I put on my car... a little different but work well. Available from Ben Corbsen. ... CR |

There are two MG grab handles on Ebay right now - one simple curved one and on MG embossed flat style one. Auctions end soon. |
