MG TD TF 1500 - What's you favorite part?
As many of you know, I am painting my TD piece-by-piece. When I started working on my car, it was very rusty. All of the pieces had surface rust, some had dings and dents, others had complete rust holes. In total, every panel needed body work to fix one problem or another. Now that I'm finally seeing everything in a uniform color and shine, I'm really impressed with the beauty of the car's sheet metal. Most of the metal shapes are quite complex. If you have been through this process, you already know, there isn't a single flat panel on these cars. (The rear panel above the tank backboard is close, but bends over the rear of the tub.) I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone's favorite curve is? Some to consider: The double hump of the scuttle. the great front fenders. The splash pans. The pointed tail at the back of the rear fenders (wings). The neat little rise at the front of the doors, where they meet the dash. There are many more.... Maybe I've inhaled too many paint fumes! Anyway, please share you thoughts on these wonderful little cars... |

My comment is I think modern computer design programs would have a hard time developing the surfaces of the scuttle, front and rear wings, without a scanned surface (clay model) to work from. I spent 42yrs in Motown Styling studios and when retired was trained in UG15. Those are my favorite shapes, I never tire of looking at them. Greg & Grimm |

Gotta go with those big pointy headlights! |

My choice is the Octagon. Either black and white with chrome or brown and cream with chrome. To me that design is almost timeless. You do know that if you fail to lock the door on the OctaBarn------octagone. Sandy Said that. |

Mine is the outboard side of the squared off tear-drop of metal between the dash and the edge of the car, which descends from the scuttle to the joint with the door. That is where I pat Mark (MKII), when he gets me home again, or finishes the race with us both in one piece. Safety Fast Paul |

Definitely the curves of front fender. Fell in love with those lines thirty five years ago, my first year in college. One of the "rich" kids in the dorm had one and kept it in the dorm parking lot, until he flunked out after winter quarter. He probably spent too much time keeping it running, and couldn't get more than two girls in it at a time. Took another thirty years until I finally bought mine. Steve Markman 50 TD |

The front fenders. I can only imagine working with the machines that turned those out. |

My favorite part is....... the MGTD heater. It’s plaid and usually made of wool in Scotland. The old timers (which I am now one of) use to call them lap robes. Hope, I didn’t misunderstand the question. John |
