MG TD TF 1500 - wheel converstion
I am wanting to convert my 54 TF to wire wheels. I have gotten serveral answers as to what I need to do. Some say I have to change out the rear axle. Others say I don't. Being new to the MG world I was wanting a little professional advice. If anyone can help it would be appreaciated. Thanks Bud |

THe rear axle does not need to be changed. On the rear you must use the rear splined hub and brake drum for whire wheels. On the front you must change the hubs along with the brake drums. If I were doing it I would locate the front parts from an MGA. The drums are 10" and you use the backing plates from an MGA along with the drums. To me this is a bolt on proposition and gives better braking at the front where it is needed. The master cylinder will easily handle the MGA parts. I have done several this way. Sandy |

Bud -- I don't consider myself an expert, but I did do the wire wheel conversion myself. I had assistance from folks on this site, especially one LaVerne Downey, and I have posted the process of this conversion on my web-site: mgtf54.blogspot.com You will have to click on the appropriate section, but I pretty much outline, with picture, what I did for the conversion. Hope this helps and e-mail me if you need any clarification at beemers2up at yahoo dot com Cheers -- John |

Bud, this is a little pricey, but would solve all the issues. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-TD-TF-wire-wheel-rear-and-front-end-wheel-MGTD-MGTF-/200551705505?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb1d02ba1 Dallas |
