MG TD TF 1500 - Whole lotta something going on
Know how this group loves truth in advertizing. I submit for your scrutiny this E-bay ad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-T-Series-TD-1952-MG-TD-9-800-Orig-Miles_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ31858QQihZ017QQitemZ270229387823QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW |

We got a chicken in the barn. Do you rebuild a 9800 mile car with black piping and interior? Not likely. Hmmm 6 volt to 12? The wheels look like Borrani's but they are gonna cost as much as the car to recondition. Next |

For $32,000 he may get to drive it "untill the day I die". I normally don't comment on cars being advertised on eBay but how the heck do you get rock chips in that area of the fender if you have the running boards installed? |
Gene Gillam |
My first impression of the wheels, is that they were early Borrani with alloy rims. The rims do look like they are alloy, but the hubs are unusually big and deep so I'm not sure. And the long spokes are too long to be Dunlops and some are bent. These wheels would have to be rebuilt but I have no idea where one would get parts. Then there's the TF spare wheel carrier on a TD. In my mind, that's a no-no. And a black dash? $32,000 ~ he's gotta be kidding! Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

I like the BARONI wheels. It was mispelled . It should have been baloni to go along with the rest of the story. Look at his email address (vrgnstuff). Does that imply it hasn't been screwed with? Gordon-- TF spare racks did not have vertical tubes up from the rack as does TD's.The bent spoke on the spare came from the tire installer. He must have used an old tire machine that used a locater peg. I did that same thing once. With all it's problems it can still park in my garage. Sandy |

Hummm! Wouldn't a $32K car have a brass base fuel pump? Didn't a true 52 have painted headlamp buckets. I think the TF spare rack is OK, IF the car had factory/dealer wire wheels added, didn't they use the TF rack ? |

Hello Bruce I could not read the whole eBay advertisement; it just made me too emotional? Thanks for the help on the GT. John |

I don't know if your spoofing Sandy, but I've been to the BORRANI plant (just outside Milano). Boroni is the guy they made a movie about a couple of years ago, who came from one of the Slavic states. No. Perhaps I'm wrong. That's the guy running for the Demonstratic Party. Or, maybe I'm wrong again. As an Ex-Pat Montrealer, you should be able to straighten me out!! Do you really believe it has only 9,000 miles on it? gac |
Gordon A. Clark |
Gord, The car has 9,000 miles on it the way many cars of that vintage have low milage. When it was last rebuilt (we know the instruments at least came out when the fascia was recovered) someone zeroed the odometer. Heck, I'm doing the same because I know I don't have the original speedometer in my car. It has the 'mains' light, and that didn't happen until several thousand cars after mine, and the speedometer was a slightly different color than the rest of the instruments. So, when I had them restored, I had APT zero the milage. There are a few people who I would trust to evaluate an original T-Series after this much time. You would be one of them. warmly, dave |

Mais certainement mon vieux. The 9000 miles as claimed is the same way they count millions here in the USA . They just dropped a few 00000000's. Baroni baloney (bologna)he is obviously full of hopme brewed horse puck material. Has the white stuff melted enough to find your TF? You know that I wouldn't yank your crank Gordon.LOL Sandy 86 degree Florida |

"Converted to 12volts" I used to watch a lot of police detective shows and the cops always knew they had a live one when they detected the "first lie". After that, everything else being said was suspect. I would be leary of this offer but that's just my opinion. Paul. |

Here's how the seller explained the "conversion from 6 volt to 12 volt". Re the 12V system: When I got the car it had the 12V battery, lights, etc. but did not charge to my satisfaction. The RPM's required to charge seemed high so I checked it out and discovered the generator was still 6V. I had it rewound for 12V, replaced the regulator and now it charges at most any driving speed. Any comment? |
Roy Challberg |
What does he mean by "the generator was still on 6V"?? |

Having too much time on my hands I used the EBay feed back to question the milage, voltage and factory installed spoke wheels. Got a response last night. The milage had to be correct since he has driven the car 200 miles and the odometer works perfectly. Besides records show that the car was in storagre for years. It is also most unlikely that someone zeroed out the odometer! This is the exact story of my TD except my odometer shows 66000. No coment on the other two subjects. I am most disappointed by this since the explanations certainly would have been interesting. Dick Thomas TD13583 |

I'm surprised someone has not mentioned the Brooklands style steering wheel, black interior, black radiator slats, cabin heater, fuel filter, jury rigged fuel lines at the fuel pump, air filter color, headlite stone shields, and no overriders on the front bumper. As I understand, some TD's did have bright headlite buckets, others were painted. |
