MG TD TF 1500 - Why I like LEDs
All of the lights on my TD are LEDs except the two warning lights and the fog lights. I wanted to see what the current draw was for the LEDs vs the incandescent fog lights. Watch the ammeter. Tim https://youtu.be/wWxPQNpWJcE |

Now you can add that 40,000 watt stereo amp. |

lol! |

Even better, a couple of aircraft landing lights instead of the regular fogs. |

I put LEDs in the fogs as well. Dave H |

Dave, I plan to change mine as well. I switched out the white LEDs in the side and tail lights for amber and red respectively and it increased visibility and brightness quite a bit. Regards Tim |

If you want to see a power draw try the original headlamps. You are running off of the battery unless you are at least at 2,500 rpm and with the high beams on you better be pulling 3,500+. :-) |

I installed halogen headlamp bulbs in my TC (8" lamps). Brighter and less draw. LED in the rear but for brightness, not for power savings. I have no added accessories so at this point the generator puts out far more than I'll ever use. |

Chris, the horns in my 51 TD will peg the ammeter to the negative side when sounded. That's why I'm looking for LED horns. :-) Of course adding LEDs have nothing to do with extra capacity. It has everything to do with lessening the wear and tear on the switches and generator. Regards Tim |

Tim, The Windtone horns should draw around 7 amps combined. So either your ammeter is reading wrong, or your horns need a good tuning. If you find some LED horns, let me know. They would be a nice addition to my ever expanding line of LED lights that I manufacture and sell. <grin> |

Lew, I was being a bit ferocious when I made that ammeter claim. I'm in discussions with a former Minister of the Economy in Nigeria who wants to invest in my LED horn development. :-) Actually it was your past comments in this forum that got me interested in LEDs. I've mentioned your name to several people regarding LEDs for the T series. Regards Tim |

To Dave Hill What are the bulbs you putin the Fod / driving lamps? Thanks Rick |
Rick |
With full LED lighting and a crank handle, you could remove the generator and starter to save 30 pounds of weight. Just recharge once per day at any electric vehicle charging station. Technically speaking the car would be running on battery power, right? ;) |

When I was a young boy (pre any form of licensing), I discovered I could drive the TD around the block using the starter motor and did not need a key. My first EV. :-) |

Rick. I bought them from eBay UK. This is the description - 2x45W CREE LED Lucas LLB323 Spotlight / Fog light bulbs 12V P36s SFT576 SFT700 They came from China and cost £19.99 the pair. 7W 600Lm They dropped straight in with no issues. I am running Negative Earth. Dave H |
Dave Hill |
Dave, thanks for the info. I plan to convert my fog lights as well. Regards Tim |
