MG TD TF 1500 - Why I Love This Forum!

Not intending to get mushy but, I'm a firm believer in the fact that praise should be given when people give, unselfishly, their valuable time to help others in need.
Man that's why I love this forum! It's a constant learning experience with so much excellent knowledge displayed. With all the Internets bad points, forums like this make it all worthwhile. My personal THANKS goes out to all who have contributed, unselfishly, their excellent knowledge to it! It's helped me tremendously! PJ

Ditto - If it were not for this group, I would never have been able to take on the challenge of restoring a TD and it would be in the junk yard right now. (About 25% complete and counting.)

PJ,
I couldn't have said it better!!!!
Add my thanks to all.

Completely in agreement PJ. Without the assistance, loan of needed tools, and most importantly, encouragement, I would not have been able to make the progress I have on the restoration of my '54 TF. Quite honestly, I was very naive about what it would take to do such a restoration. The folks who contribute to this BBS have made up for my lack of knowledge and experience at crucial points in this restoration. So, I add my sincere thanks to those who so regularly contribute and make this such a great BB.

The help I have received, from a huge well of experience so freely given, has been absolutely priceless and I don't know where on earth I would have been without it.

The only plea I would make, to all users of the group, is that everyone who asks for help lets everyone else know what the result of that help has been. Like reading a thriller with the last page missing, it's not good to be left in a miserable state of doubt and is frustrating in the extreme to follow a long, long thread of possibilities, to have it all fizzle out in silence.

Thanks again, everyone.

- Tom.

Here here! The TD-TF section of this site is one of the best forums out there. No reason to go anywhere else when the best information and most pleasant atmosphere are right here.

Gentlemen,

I second all the comments above. I have been lurking here for nearly ten years. Recently began the task of bringing my neglected TD back to reliable driving condition. My several questions were answered with amazing speed and generous offers of spares. I am very grateful to all who helped and thanks in advance for more advice I will need in the future.

Warmest regards,

Great board, learn new stuff every day. One of the few message boards around that is polite and civil. The knowledge of those no longer with us lives on as well. When dad bought my car in the mid-70s there were three shops here in our then little town that were knowledgeable, could find parts, and work on a TD. Now the only remaining import shop calls me for T advise, and I help them. Lots of stuff I learned here passed back to the shop! George

This a great place to hang out. I've learned a great deal over the past few years. A very respectable group in every way. I proud to say I have met a few here and hope to meet some more.
LaVerne

My very first question here was in reference to removing the rear shock links. Dave DuBois informed me that I needed a needle nose vise grips. It worked, and they have become one of my favorite tools. Pretty cool forum.

My thoughts echo what has been said above. Finest bunch of people I have met on the internet. It almost seems as if each contributor is trying to get his answer on the BB ahead of everybody else. And talk about giving credit where credit is due. Just a wonderful bunch of people.
Thanks for being who you are.

This forum was the impetus for starting my Supplier List that is now on Bud's Tech Talk. There were so many web site siggestions that I wanted to have them in one place. Thanks to everyone who has suggested a site for obtaining a part or information. I hope all of you find it helpful.

As a newbie to MGs after 40+ years of involvement in other classic vehicles I can only praise all the help and advice I have received on this mailing list since I found the TF of my dreams June 10. 2010.

Thank you!

I did not even consider buying my 52 until I saw if a forum existed and this one is the best. I did a frame up with no previous experience. It has been one of my lives great experiences and continues to be so. Last week I was fighting my gear box tendency to pop out of first ( again). With the selfless help of FR Millmore's expert advice a few photo emails back and forwards , I believe we've got it solved. Where else would I go for this kind of expert technical advice? Thanks Fletch And Dave B and the many others who have made TD ownership a beautiful experience. Keith

Totally agree with all the above. There are not a lot of MG' in the area I live so this web is like having a next door neighbor who owns the same car you do and is an encyclopedia of all things related to the car.

I am not a big facebook person, and I don;t twitter, But, I look at this web every night.

Thanks to all

With the advent of the internet came the billboards which morphed into forums. I am appalled how some of them have degraded into mud-slinging sessions.

This is THE ONLY forum, I have come across, where we use our own names, no psuedonyms or monikers. We are not afraid of making the occasional misteak(??) and own up to it rather than chastise. Sure there's the occasional BS (I am guilty!), but in general all entries are sincere and with quality exchanges.

I check in every day, even when I'm away (just came back from Malaysia, and am off to Florida in a few days), but I still check in to make sure everybody's being honest!!

I'd just like to add my praise as well. I'm new to TD ownership and I have already learned so much from this forum. Three cheers to all of you!

Gordon hit it right on the button. I only wish that this forum were available when I bought Lazarus back in 1988. Sure would have made life easier. Thanks for sharing. Bud

Take the TF apart : 2 days.
Put it back together : 9 months.
If I would never have discovered this forum and it's "archives" 10+ years ago it would still be in pieces.
Without it's generous members it would still be missing some pieces!
The only downside is I'll need to hit the lottery to buy all the "owed beers" should I be lucky enough to finally meet everybody on here.
Cheers,
David

I have to join in with my praise and comments.

What I’ve learned here concerning parts and suppliers, along with tips and techniques, is a great help in completing the abandoned restoration I purchased.

I’m especially appreciative of the civility and respect for each other displayed here. I’ve participated on a boat forum where the conversation quickly degenerates when the trolls move in. Maybe it’s indicative of the age or education of this group, I don’t pretend to know; most here can actually spell and form comprehensible sentences! I also feel my typos will be forgiven.:-)

The effort that individuals have made to document their work and tabulate data for the rest of us is just outstanding; my hat’s off to all of you.

I want to add my thanks as well - many on this board have helped me with answers to my many questions, and usually very quickly. Having purchased a "stalled restoration" which was nearly completely disassembled as my first T project, I have had and will continue to have questions. My experience with this BB is that it is helpful and welcoming, even to us newbies. It's like being a member of a giant world wide car club which feels like a local one.

Gentlemen,

One thing I did not mention before is a BIG thank you to the people who maintain the site, software, and server. GREAT WORK! The up-time percentage of this site is unbelievable.

Jim,
You are spot on!
Best thing they ever did was open this forum to allow pictures.
That sure made things easier!
David Sheward

I think the thanks for the picture capability goes to Steve James (John James son). Sure has made the BB more interesting and useful.
With Thanks,
