MG TD TF 1500 - Why Two Parts?

This ad from Bell Motors has me stumped. Note they differentiate between a 51 and 52 steering wheel.

I can't understand what is different about them that the center hub would be different from one year to another.

what about color? Either color of the MG insert or the plastic dome?

Good one Chris. Since they are the same, I have no idea why they would have different ones for different years.

As we all know, changes were made throughout the production and the year of the car had minimal difference relating to changes.

JA. I was thinking the same thing. Brown or black lettering, but that was not year dependent.

Some copy person might have just screwed it up.
