MG TD TF 1500 - Will it work?
Going to contact the manufacture of these master cylinders for specifications, as looking at the photo of the aluminum unit, I'm curious if this would work as a duel conversion without much modification. Be interesting to try. Nice feature is, the reservoirs can be mounted directly on top or in a remote position. PJ

Paul, Here's a write-up on a change to the TC braking system. I know our master cylinders are different but the principal is the same: http://mg-tabc.org/techn-up/VW%20%20Master%20Cylinder%20Conversion.pdf |

PJ, I studied this possibility for a while and gave up. Although I have a RHD TD and might have exhaust heat problems cooking the brake fluid, I was also very concerned with the F and R brake lines connected to the bottom of the M/C. Seemed like it would be necessary to come with some (banjo?) fittings to make sure the lines didn't extend lower than the bottom edge of the frame. Now you sparked my interest once again. Keep us posted. |

If you're serious, I know one of the engineers at Wilwood who is also an MG owner (early MGB). I'm sure he would be willing to help figure out if it would work if I were to come by and talk with him. I have to say though, I share Jim's concern about the fittings exiting from the bottom. |

I didn't pick up on the bottom line connections and I agree that there would have to be a sharp 90 degree fitting on both. My peddle box is perfect, so any cutting is not an option. The Vega idea is good, but it looks like there's been some cutting to the box, unless I'm looking at it wrong. My idea, as I'm assuming others have thought of it as well, is to make a strong bracket that will bolt on using existing bolt holes and then bolt the MS to it. More to come. PJ |

Steve S., when you speak with your engineer acquaintance, please keep us RHD owners in mind. On our cars, the M/C fits in between the frame and the exhaust header pipe. You can look at any TD to see how little space there is for the cylinder assembly. I know a heat shield can be made but ports on either side of the cylinder for the brake lines seem to be out of the question. I hope I am wrong. PJ I share your concern about carving up a perfectly good pedal box. As they say, I'd like to keep my cake and eat it too!!!! |

Jim, I have a TC and (until recently) a YB, both right hand drive. So, I know exactly what you're referring to! |
