MG TD TF 1500 - Wiper Repair
Preparing for safety inspection, wipers don't work. Have power to screen. Diassembled wiper did standard small electric motor tries: cleaned armatures chacked contact switch and button checked brushes. But looks like interior had water at one time a lot of pitting and rust seems small connecting wires and armature wrapping could be shot. Mechanicals move smooth when armature turned. Couldn't find a wipoer repair source in the archives, but do remember a guy in Medfield, Mass who does electric fuel pump and horn repair does anyone know who he is and does he also do wipers. I am also in need of a speedo repair so a source for both ( two-fer) would be perfect. I am assuming because of Moss's N/a the NOS or replacments are not avaialble |

Jon Wiper motor/gearbox on our TF was a pain: intermittent to dead! On stripping I discovered that the gearbox was packed with old grease that had set solid like soap. Also progressive water penetration had corroded the motor so the whole thing was a soggy mess. However, it dismantled easily (watch out for the very small Paxolin brush spring retainers) and cleaned up in white spirit and WD40. I repacked the gearbox, re-seated the brushes with fine emery paper and lubricated the end armature bearings, cleaned the connections, gave her new wiper blades and we have had no further trouble over 2 years now. |
