MG TD TF 1500 - Wiring Harness
I purchased my very first MG TD (1952 TD14714) in October, 2006. This BBS has been a fantatic source of information to help me deal with the various minor repairs and restoration challenges. I am happy to report that I have driven the car regularly and have suffered only one (very minor) road mishap related to my electrical system. I have decided to replace my car's wiring harness and need this group's collective expert opinions. While I am not planning to restore the car to showroom condiiton, I want to be reasonably faithful(ie. braided?). So I need to know what is the best source for a high quality, reasonably priced wiring harness. Thanks in advance -- Mike |

Mike, Although I have not (yet) had the need to replace my 53-year-old wiring harness, I have seen several and the range of quality is astounding. Almost certainly, I wouldn't be inclined to buy a harness from Moss, as they tend to be "cost-effective" and I just didn't like the quality. Only last week, I saw one for an MGB made in the UK and furnished by B&G. It was of good quality except that one connection came up a bit short. The best for T-Series that I have seen, came from British Wiring in PA - http://www.britishwiring.com/. A chap up the road from me is doing a TC and his new harness from BW is beautifully-made and of reasonable cost. Also, you can custom order extra connections like a reversing lamp, 2nd fog lamp, etc. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Mike, check out Rhode Island Wiring (www.riwire.com/). Excellent quality. |

Several years ago I bought a Moss harness and found it to fit just right and quality was good. I have no vested intrest in Moss but found absoultly no problem with the harness which is braided not the cheap one. |

Moss harness not installed yet (braided), quality appears beautiful. George |

I should have been more specific above. I appears that British wiring uses larger conductors in constructing their harnesses, providing a better margin of safety from overheated wires. See more information in my fuse blog at tseriesmg.bl*gsp*t.com (note: change * to o - the BBS doesn't like bl*gsp*t) That being said, I have a moss harness and I is working out fine to date..... |
