MG TD TF 1500 - Wiring Harness Install
Hello Everyone and thanks for looking. I run a repair shop and have taken on this car as a favor. This is a 1952 TD that a body shop has done a complete restore. someone else has removed the wiring harness and I have put it back in or should I say I am trying to put it back in.!!!! I have 3 different wiring diagrams and have figured out everything except the turn signals. I am not sure where the switch mounts I think it mounts sorta in the middle of the dash there is a bracket that looks like it will house the switch and the wires end up close to that area. Also does the harness for the front lamps run down the drivers side then over the radiator or under it? I have a bunch of other questions also if anyone has the time I could post some pictures if needed. Thanks again. Chip |

Chip, The only part of your question that I can assist with is that the wire for the front lamps goes under the front apron,, SPW |

Hi Chip. Good luck. I'm into a complete redo on a 53 TD. Here are some images showing where the turn signal is located on a car that would have had turn signals as it left the factory. The switch is mounted behind the lower edge of the dash so that the lever is accessible, just above the gearshift: |

The switch is mounted to the inner dash panel with two screws: |

Here's a photo of an original '53 showing the turn indicator switch mounted slightly right of center of the dash. Roy |

Originally, the turn signal relay can is mounted on the back of the toolbox. Some wiring harnesses put it in different locations. Keep in mind that the relay can must be well grounded for the turn signals to work. Here's an image showing the relay's location on the53. Bud

Hi, pictures always helpful, we are glad to answer any questions. I think Steve's answer is for fog lamps? Do you mean fog lamps, head or sidelamps? The main harness runs down the left chassis rail, then along the crossmember to the right side, then up. Maybe Dave or someone has pictures of those areas? George |

Bud, do you happen to have a picture showing how those 2 screws attach to the switch itself on the other side of the inner panel? They can't just screw into the side of the tubular switch. Mine is funky, hence the question. Ed |

Ed - The screws hold a 'L' bracket in place. The switch mounts to the 'L' bracket (there are threads on the projection of the switch housing where the shaft comes through and a large knurled nut that secures the switch assembly in the 'L' bracket). Cheers - Dave |

Thanks Guys you are great with the quick replies. I am getting this thing back together. sorta hard when you are not the one who took it apart !! also I have a question about warning lamps does anyone know what the second lite in is I think it is for the fuel level but am not 100 % sure alos the lite just under the amp gauge and the horn button is this the turn signal lamp? Again thanks for time everyone Chip |

Ed, Dave's right on and it looks like this. Chip, you're right. It should have a green lens and it is the fuel warning light. It's a 2-wire light that gets its ground from the fuel level sensor on the fuel tank. You might see http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/Indicators.htm for a bit more on the lights. Bud |

Here is a picture of my center dash. The lower left red light is the ignition warning, the next green fuel warning. As my earlier TD did not come with turn signals, there is no warning light for that. I believe it would go in the middle under the horn switch (which could be different on the later TD) and the ammeter. George
