MG TD TF 1500 - Wood Color
Due to an accident with my battery, I find myself in a position of having to repaint my firewall and a fender. Now that I have it ready for paint, I need help in what color the wood attached to the firewall should be. Mine is currently not painted. Just has the rubber for the hood nailed to it. Know that this group will have the answer. Bruce Cunha |

That wood was installed before the car was painted as it headed down the line, and would have received body-colored paint at the same time the body did. |

It was all painted at one time with the body bucket and firewall so body color. The rubber was added afterward. Find your other finish questions here: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtf/mgtf_finishes.htm Chris |

Has anyone found a good way of attaching the rubber to the wooden strip? I'm still using the original rubber whilst I set the bonnet properly and have used carpet tacks. They don't allow any adjustment and look a mess. I would like to use glue when I finally fit my new rubber but am open to advice on which would be the best. Jan t |

Jan, I used some small brass nails to secure the rubber strip to the wood. No glue was used at the factory so I didnt either. The brass heads will eventually tarnish and wont be all that noticeable. The original nails were steel and when I removed them, the rusted nails just disintegrated. |

Jan: If you use the 1" small blued flat head nails (brads) as original it works well. Try this technique: Fitting Hood Rubber Strip at Body (firewall) http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_tips.htm#General Chris |
