MG TD TF 1500 - Wooden steering wheel
Who made one and took excellent pics of it? I know of someone that wants to restore a Less Leston wheel and would like to give him the site if I have permission. |

That would probably by our own Gordon Lawson. dave |

Thanks Gordon. I love this steering wheel. There was another thread that showed each and every step. I saved it somewhere but cannot find it. |

This is another method. I adapted it for a three spoke TD wheel. http://www.mg-tabc.org/techn-up/steer_js.htm Dallas |

Thanks. I'm sure these will come in handy for him. I'd love to get one of these one day of fabricate myself. I can cut the blades from 1/8" Stainless (I've a waterjet at work) but would need a hub. The wood part would be OK but just takes time. Maybe the mystery steering wheel I posted about would make a good starter. |

Ohhhhhh a waterjet!!!! Talked to our local waterjet guy and was going to draw up the rim/spoke(blades?) and center piece but knew it would be in the $100.00 range to cut. Happens that if you take a stock wheel that has broken/bent/wrecked spokes and cut it down, you can get a perfect 3" circle right where there are three aluminum bumps(that can be threaded) and it makes a solid hub. You can see where the original hub and spacer piece are on: http://gblandco.com/td307.jpg Somewhere I have the construction photo'd..... |

Here is the hub.... didn't have a lathe so used a drill press for cleaning up and polishing... Aluminum is neat...you can pretty well use any woodworking tools to work it... router, sander, etc, etc. Was concerned about my metal working abilities when I started, but the wheel/hub has been on for a year or more and hasn't worked loose or given me any grief at all. http://gblandco.com/hub/hub.html |
