MG TD TF 1500 - XPAG/TD2 engine fuel octane?
What is the correct for the 1953 TD with a XPAG/TD2 engine? Should lead additives be used to increase octane? Should any additive be used, i.e., injector cleaner, fuel line antifreeze? Tks. Gene |

It depends on your compression ratio - most (or at least many) XPAGs have had this increased from the very low ratio originally used to cope with the poor post war fuel. Measure the depth of the head and let me know, we can then see what octane you need. If the head is standard - you can use any fuel avaliable now - but it would help to increase it for modern fuels. I've been using Gasahol, 89 octane and 92 (the highest I can get) for over ten years in a 1250 TD with 9+ compression ratio. It doesn't pink. I think the small bore of these engines is the key. A clean combustion chamber probably also helps. My TD was changed to stage III 40,000 miles ago. |
