Triumph Spitfire - Engine Numbers

A friend has various Spitfires in various stages of rejuvenation and recently he started on one which has an engine serial # starting DM. As he has never seen this before he wonders if this is the correct engine or is it from another Triumph Model? - maybe a Dolomite??
Can anyone provide some info please.
