Triumph Spitfire - Spitfire Distributor Question
I recently bought a '79 Spitfire of the variety that is brought home in boxes. I've put the engine together and installed it and now am working through the ignition. I have three distributors. Two are the later electronic Lucas distributors, one is an earlier model with points and condenser. However, this is not the distributor which was used on earlier Spit models. It will not accept the cap, rotor, points, condenser, or any of the screws that fit the earlier Spitfire Distributor. I have not been successful in getting spark out of either of the electronic units, and am still trying to identify the other so I can find parts. Can anyone tell me how to test the electronic units off the car, and what should be coming out of the wires that plug into the distributor on the car side, voltage wise? Second, can anyone point me somewhere where I might be able to identify the mystery distributor and what car it was used on? Thanks to all.... |

Matt, My only suggestion would be to call one of the parts suppliers and ask them, someone like Little British Car Company. Or post here the numbers on the distributor. Sorry, I don't know how to test one of the electronic units. |
