Triumph Spitfire - Stage One Engine Kit
I am Looking for any information and the specificatios for whatwas called a "Stage One" Triumph Spitfire factory engine kit. Apparently, they produced a 1296cc engine with a modified cylinder head, exhaust and carbs which increased the horsepower by some 30%! It is documented in historical books on Spitfires. It originally was an option of about 175 pounds which would be a lot when the car only sold for 500. Can anyone help of give some possible suggestions where to look. |

Hi Dean, According to "Triumph Spitfire and GT6" by Graham Robson, the Stage 1 included an 8 port head with a 10.5:1 compression ratio, and different manifolds and camshaft timing. It's unclear in the book what kind of carburetion was used. It was an option for the 1147cc MKI producing 80 bhp and costing a little over 92 (pounds). There was also a Stage 2 with a 10.5:1 ratio, a head being developed for the '65 1300 saloon, new manifolds, dual twin-choke Weber 40 DCOE's and a different camshaft. It supposedly supplied 90 bhp and had a top speed of 107 mph with 0-60 in 10.6 sec. |
