er, once you hack/chop/add/lump what you have IMHO is not a GT-6 but a salt flats speed car. |

Lost Spitfires, Blasphemed GT 6s - what next? :-) That's what makes this BBS great. Keep the stories coming. Always interesting Thanks for the link Joe. I agree with JT. It is no longer a GT6 |

Yes it is |

Every time somebody posts changes here to a British classic, like that TR3 a couple months ago and that hairy GT6 somebody here goes on a rant about sacrilege or "he shouldn't be allowed to do it". Everyone is entitled to his opinion and I respect that but mine is that if you own it, do what you like with it. You only have to please yourself. It is not a crime to modify an original British sports car. As a matter of personal choice I would not stray very far from original myself but I do reserve the right to add a roll bar, upgraded fast road cam, increase the compression ratio, upgrade the ignition to electronic and convert to tube shocks and possibly after market wheels such as the lovely VTO's Don tipped us off on and whatever else I think I might like. All in the pursuit of making a fine British classic just a little better. If a guy wants to stuff a 350 CI Chevy engine in a TR6 more power to him (no pun intended) but I probably would not give it a second look other than to admire his ingenuity in pulling it off. Folks have been hot rodding American Classic cars for decades and I don't hear any rants about that being sacrilege. Sometimes we British car buffs are a tad too stuffy for our own good. Had to get that one off my chest! Here's another one to chew on. :0) Have a good one. Bob |

Didn't say it was "sacrilege" just said it's no longer a GT-6. A car "to me" is about it's total sum of parts....in essence it's body and drive train. People upgrade suspension, interior, performance mods etc BUT IMHO it's engine is it's heart and it's body are essential for it to be what it was intended. If a guy wants to put a chevy in his TR-6 thats his buisness....it's mine not to recognize it as a TR-6. I'm no purist or car snob I'm just not for hacking away at a classic. People come by my friends Jaguar garage all the time with there 350 Chevy lumped Jaguars and he tells them he doesn't work on "chevys" Sorry, I don't "Rant" I just tell it like I see it. I'm not sure what the heck that pictures of but regardless of the "ingenuity" involved it still looks like crap in my book. Dr Frankenstein had lots of ingenuity but he still created a monster. |

I think it looks like crap too - just respect his right to do it. All was not directed at you JT. I regret if it offended you. Cheers, Bob |

If people misunderstood my comments, I apologize. I don't have a problem with what was done to the GT6. As Bob says- its his car he can do what he wants to it. All I meant was that the car no longer is a GT6 in my opinion- no longer the same body style and I don't believe street legal. Thus it is not a GT6. Maybe my choice of the word "blasphemed" was a little too strong- I apologise for its use. It was meant only in jest. I enjoy seeing the creativity of what people can do to theirs cars and encourage the posts - keep them coming |

Heck no...I'm not offended...I'm offended by the masses who take V-12's, XK6's out of Jaguars and put 350 Chevy's in them. That TR-6 in the picture could run the same speed/times with a nice warmed over XK6 triple SU's under the bonnet, proper trans and rear end combo...would look spectacular with a mild hood blister to fit the XK engine...and be all british. Many a person has gotten rich off of other peoples lack of good taste. |

In that case, I guess this is a no go too. |

Everybody take a deep breath now - we are all members of a brotherhood here (sorry sisters)with a common interest in all things TR6 but with otherwise different tastes and opinions. Had a great drive today with about 40 other cars. Only 3 Triumphs; my TR6, a '64 TR4 and a '80 Spit. Lots of Bimmers and Miatas and a few Mustangs, a couple MGB's. One Maserati wannabe (a Maserati badged Chrysler LeBaron). I liked the three Triumphs best! But, our former Premier, Danny Williams showed up to gas up while we were stopped for a p break at the local Irving station. He was driving his Maserati Quattroporte, a very, very sweet ride even if it is a quattroporte, Italian sex machine. Good time had by all. Cheers, Bob |
