Triumph TR6 - Carb heat spacer
|Hope I can find some help.I have removed the carbs for a cleaning off a long sleeping tr6, a car I never have driven, and was going to reinstall them but think the DPO may have installed the spacer on one carb wrong, The spacer and gasket has a small relief ,like a 1/4"hole off to the side of the 1- 3/4" hole in the gasket. this must be for some carb vent hole, my problem is there are two holes on the back of the carb that look like they might work with this small relief in the gasket. I left the spacers on the car when I removed the carbs and one( the relief) was lower and facing forward on front carb, and the rear was higher and facing back. My thinking is the rear is wrong but it still looks like it lines up with a hole om the back of the carb. Both carbs seem to have the same holes . My manual was no help but I'm sure somebody out there knows, Thanks Jeff|
Both should be lower and facing forward. At least they are both that way on mine, and line up with vents on the face of the carb.
|Thanks Rod, thats what I thought.. BUT when I went to peel the gaskit away from the carb spacer, I found the spacer has two small cut outs , one lower , facing faward and one higher and facing rear. This was covered by the gaskit that goes between the carb and the spacer, the gaskit only had one cut out and it was installed facing rear and higher, covering the normal lower and faward slot. This is on the rear carb, the front carb has the normal spacer with one small cutout facing faward and lower. Ive looked at a few sets of used carbs and some gaskit sets and only found the gaskits and spacers with one one relief or "cut out". I cant remember ever seeing one with two cutouts but its been a long since Ive worked on one. By the way its a 74 ( and its white)Anybody know what those vents do? should I make a gaskit with two little cutouts or put a spacer with only one on it?|

You got me there...mine only have the one 'notch'. My car is an early 74, without EGR, but later may be different? Plate AF in the TRF blue catalog only shows one gasket for all years. The carb illustrations show NO notch, this may be a misrepresentation? Not sure whatcha got there, Jeff. Somebody else got an official BL TR6 catalog?

|Jeff, et. al. BL Triumph TR6 Sports Car Parts Catalog, plate J shows the spacer with a gasket on either side, but the cut out evident in the TRF Catalog, Plate AF is not visible in this iteration. The gasket to manifold covers the spacer completely and ahs no cut out in the gasket. The Haynes Triumph TR5 and 6 workshop manual has a great drawing of the carburettors, but sans spacer and gaskets. So, you're back to square one, I'm afraid. I guess the thing to do is to have someone remove a carb and check the alignment. Mine have been off for 2 years, and I don't ave a clue as to how they were oriented.|

The alignment is easily determined. There is an offset tab on the top of the spacer and gasket that will line up with a corresponding tab on the manifold. The tabs on the spacer will only line up (on the manifold) one way. That will place the inside notch in the correct position. I just pulled the SU's off and put the Z-S's back on (temporary) waiting for new floats & needles and seats. The alignment and placement of the spacer was evident when I looked at the manifold and spacer tabs. Jeff...possibly the DPO has left you with spacers from another car? Hope this helps!
