Triumph TR6 - Carb Rebuilding & Polishing
Hi Guys: After finishing cleaning and glass bead blasting my Strombergs, linkage and intake manifold (came out very, very nice too) I came across a site for Paltech Micropolishing in Brunswick,Ohio. www.paltech1.com. This guy does what looks like a superb polishing job on carbs, linkages, and manifolds and also offers carb rebuilding along with sale of complete setups, both stock and custom. He's got SU conversions too. I can't comment on pricing beyond compared with the Big 3 suppliers, he offers beautiful, complete, rebuilt polished carbs on polished manifolds with powder coated linkages for a price I could live with. If you are looking at your carbs this guy is definitely worth a look anyway. Winter is coming so what else are you gonna do - in the North? Oh well, back to the workshop. Just received 1/3 of my order; backorder on Goodparts GP2 cam and most other necessary bits. Next time I'll confirm availability before ordering from the Big 3. Cheers, Bob 1976 - TR6 |

I have been told parts were not available, told them not to backorder, then got the parts a couple days after I received same from a supplier that did have them in stock. Sent the parts back that I told them not to send, and never could get credit. I finally just paid them because it wasn't enough to get an ulcer over. A couple years later, I found my name was still on their computer as having a dispute. The problem supplier in this case was TRF. But I still like them, and wish them the best of luck. Some day I may need something that is only available from them. No way I would trust them with an investment, and would try other sources before ordering large parts from them. |

Bob, For what it's worth, I sent my carbs and intake to Jeff Palya (Paltech)last spring for rebuild, polish and bench set up. They came back looking beautiful and when installed all I had to do was set the idle and I was off to the back roads! I did check the mixture..just a touch rich and I left them that way. The car runs great..no hesitation or stumble on roll off or all the way to "near" red-line ( I don't like to strain my baby). I found Jeff through Bob Danielson's website that's been mentioned here many times...tr6.danielsonfamily.org. Go there for some excellent pictures of Jeff's work and some good commentary from Bob. I paid $440 USD and it's been some of the best money (of a lot of money) that I've spent on my '73! I too have waited patiently for backorder parts with TRF but they are hard to beat. Mike '73 |

Mike: Nice to hear you had good results with Paltech. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I had done my carbs myself with the help of a TR6 buddy who has access to a glass bead blasting setup at his technical college and while I don't imagine they look as good as yours they do look damn good! Cost = zero $$. Then $80 for a rebuild kit from Moss + 2 metering needles and Grose jets and they are ready to go. BTW for you carb rebuilders out there, the diaphragms for the bypass vavles are not included in the carb rebuild kits so you will need to order those separately from Moss but they are only $9.95 per carb and have all necessary gaskets too. There are two bypass valve gaskets in the Moss kit (genuine Zenith parts). You can be pretty much assured you will destroy the 30 yr old diaphragms when dismantling the bypass valves. TRF is the supplier who has me on backorder and who sent 6 exhaust valves and 2 intake valves on an order that stated 4 intake valves were enclosed. In fairness to TRF they were very good about it, corrected my invoice and when they send the 4 remaining intake valves they are only charging for 2. Not a great big deal, but a nice gesture. Their parts are superior overall to anything else I have ordered. Cheers, Bob 1976 - TR6 |

Bob See my "Newfoundland Targa" thread. It would be great if TR6's from across this great land one day (I should be ready for 2009 Targa) and following the Targa route. Les |

Bob, Didn't mean to offend you carb rebuilders out there. At the time, I had spent over 600 hours on my '73 and after reading Mr. Danielson's write up of Jeff's work, I decided (well, actually my wife OK'd it) to spoil myself with a "store-bought" carb rebuild and polish. When they are due another rebuild, maybe I'll tackle them myself. Happy Winter Tinkering, Mike '73 |

Mike: No offense taken Mike. I posted Paltech's site as info for rebuilders and buyers alike. Cheers, Bob 1976 - TR6 |
