Triumph TR6 - 'clunk' in driveline
WHENEVER THE clutch IS RELEASED ON MY TR6, THERE IS A NOTICEABLE "CLUNK", COMING, SEEMINGLY, FROM THE REAR. IS THIS A WORN UNIVERSAL JOINT ON THE driveshaft, OR IS THERE ANOTHER MORE LIKELY EXPLANATION? |

Could be one or more of the differential mounting bolts has broken away from the frmae. This is a common failure for this car. Could be a u joint as well. Could be the bolts attaching the axles or drive shaft flanges have worked loose. |

Hi: The comments that Michael has made are all possible but one thing that I have seen on my '72 is that the splines on the axle shafts are worn out, especially on the right hand side which is above the exhaust. Split the rear axle, clean and grease it with moly lube and if the clunk goes away for a little while and then returns your on your way. |
