Triumph TR6 - Engine Oil and Smooth Driving

This is a touchy subject,I know... I read the BBS Threads dated July 2009 and I can sense tense position and strong feelings; but this is my question:
I drove my 76-TR6 this past summer and it really ran great, it purred and was smooth driving (1,320 Miles).
Before storing it away I brought it to my friend and British car doctor and had an oil change. Since then the car is not the same, runs rough and I can hear valves knocking when before I did not.
What has happened, do you think an oil change can make such a difference. I am not aware wich oil was used, still waiting for the info.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions,

Have you checked if there is oil in it, and what type did he use?
Is that all he did?
DON KELLY

Yes, I did check the oil level and its fine and the oil is clear. I am still waiting for the feedback as to which oil and additive was used.

I will communicate the info as soon as I get it.
Thanks for the feedback!

That thread was mostly about ZDDP in oil and not what you are talking about. Changing oil and adding or NOT adding any additive will NOT change how an engine sounds (after an oil change). No way an oil change all of a sudden causes valve train noise. This makes no sense at all since you say, yes there is oil in the engine.

I got to agree with..."is that all he did?".

I don't know Rick. If he changed it to Canola oil it might Clatter
DON KELLY

I don,t know about you Don but I prefer to run with pure virgin olive oil...cold pressed no less!

Come on Rick. One of your tastes would use only EVOO...extra virgin olive oil!!

Can't get that in Canuck Land
DON KELLY

L.T. I would say to atleast check and make sure he didn't overfill the dampers. Even if my tops aren't screwed on "just right" the engine will miss. Maybe a long shot on your vehicle but not on mine.

Isn't extra and pure just adjectives to describe Virgin?

But... OK Doug...... you got me.

Sorry LT for stealing your thread...just havin fun while we await your reply:)
