Triumph TR6 - MANIFOLD STUDS
CAN I REPLACE THE INTAKE AND exhaust MANIFOLD STUDS WITH BOLTS?HAS ANYONE DONE THIS? |
DON KELLY |
Hello, The answer is yes and no. No with regular bolts bought a your local hardware. Yes if you buy a superior grade bolts from a specialist, some will place S.S. but you must have in mind that TR6 head is not in SS and seizing is always possible. I rather prefer studs as when is is rusted you could heat them to free the nuts. Brass nuts are the best as you wont break the stud when remove it. Do not forget to use antiseize on the thread. You can use bolts but they don't tighten down as well as studs and nuts. With a bolt the entire thread turns in the threaded hole allowing for more give. The nut can be pinched down tighter on the manifold. I suppose if they are both torqued down to the same ft/lbs. it really shouldn't matter, but I was told you get better holding power out of studs and nuts. Steve. |
