Triumph TR6 - Parts
Anyone have ANY idea where I can find a button for the hand brake?? Thanks. db |
Doug Baker |
Doug UMMMM I will look for you......you know I have one somewhere. You are not ready for it yet are you?? Rick |
Rick Crawford |
Hey Rocketman I have mailed my main man in BC. Will let you know. Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
Sorry Doug... no longer available from my guy. I'll check one more source. |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken, Thanks for checking. It's listed as NLS, no longer stocked, but makes little sense to have EVERY other part of the TR-6 and one that's critical to having an emergency brake not available. Maybe Rick'll find one in his barn or perhaps some other soul with a parts car that does not need the button. Mine must have shot across the shop and into never never land. Can't find it anywhere among all my bags of parts. Rick, not yet, but getting there. Rebagging all components of like stuff and that's the one thing (now) that I'm missing from the hand brake. db |

I've also checked in with Bob Evans to see if he has one. K PS. There's a Spit in a wrecking yard about 10 miles from me. Would it have the same hand brake? |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken, I don't know about the Spitfire, but maybe. Rick, Don?? db |

Doug-Is there any chance the button with spring&rod is lurking in the lever assembly (TRF DR1)? I think it has happened to me. Also, re-assembling the handbrake was less than fun. Berry |
BTP Price |
Berry, What I get when I search TRF is NLS for the button and rod. I have the rod, although, for a long while, I thought the thing was the vent opening rod. Guess I've lost that one!! Yeah, I'm not there yet and agree that it'll be fun to reassemble. I managed to get the gear thing out so that I could powder coat the lever assembly. I've managed to get it back in ok and fortunately did not lose the shouldered bolt that secures it. I understand that that item is also NLS!! Rick has a button. He just has to find it!! Now, I'm out the water pump. I PC'ed the main housing for the thermostat and water pump, but the pump housing was crudy and I couldn't bead blast it cause of the bearings. It rattled a bit too so today I decided to press the impeller out of the bearing races. Not a good idea. The housing is cast iron. The impeller shaft had rusted enough that part of the housing came out with it when I put it in the press!! I needed justification to get Revington's alloy housing and 6 vane impeller anyway, but it was painful to break something that cannot be fixed. db |

Doug... found a guy who's sure he has a handbrake button. I should get confirmation in the next day or so. Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken, Super. Many thanks. I'll await with anticipation of success. db |
Doug Baker |
Doug: Looked over my store of spares - sorry, no button. I will check with TR6 friends here and get back to you here on line. Cheers, Bob |
Bob Evans |
Bob, Thanks. I'll watch for your note. db |
Doug Baker |
Don't you dare pay for one Doug until I have looked! Rick |
Rick Crawford |
I agree Rick. I'll trade something I have with my source if he comes through. Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
Hey guys, need a harmonic damper (sic) [I think it should be dampener}. TRF is charging me $75.00 for a core charge 'cause mine is not rebuildable. Two chips out of the pulley perimeter makes mine too expensive to rebuild!! Rod Nichols, was there an engine in that parts car? db |
Doug Baker |
Doug, Sorry, I do have 2 dampeners, but they are both chipped. Makes me wonder why I'm saving them....maybe just extra weight to hold the shop down in a high wind? Along with suspension parts and 2 blocks & heads and a crankshaft? Sheesh. Rod |
Rod Nichols |
Doug... not certain I'll have this button in the near future and am about to leave Dodge for a couple of months but in the event my source will mail it directly to you please send me your mailing address via email. Rick may have better luck. At least he is dealing with his own stash. Ken smokeyssonATgmailDOTcom |
Ken Shaddock |
Doug... I misunderstood my source and it seems he expects to sell the handbrake button. No idea what the price will be and since he has lots of parts I cannot trade with him for it. So, since Rick has offered to come up with one at no cost for you I should defer to him. However, if you would like me to pursue the button and the other part you mentioned let me know and I'll connect the two of you via email. I will be travelling as of Thursday and unable to follow up. Let me know. Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken, Thanks, many much'es!! Have him send me a list w/prices. dbaker04ATaolDOTcom. Need the hand brake button and a rebuildable harmonic dampener, maybe some other stuff too. Thanks again. db |
Doug Baker |
Done. |
Ken Shaddock |
Doug Who did you get the quote from? |
DON KELLY |
Don: He's not a retailer. He's a friend I met out in BC who turned out to be all things good re my TR purchase. He rebuilt my engine, tranny, carbs, and added OD for the character I bought from. We've traded parts in the past and he has been very helpful in getting me back on track with this car. I think he'll be in touch with Doug as a favour. He works full time and TR's are a hobby for him. I do not think he is in the business of selling stuff but who knows. Doug may know better than moi. Ken Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
I would seriously think of these guys http://www.damperdudes.net/ You can check out one of there customers here. Might as well have yours rebuilt to better than new http://www.damperdudes.net/ |
DON KELLY |
Don, Ken, Heard from Ken's friend. Awaiting prices. Bit the bullet and got a rebuilt damper from TRF which with my discount was reasonable, but I have a core charge outstanding since my damper could be easily rebuilt. The pulley had some chips out of it. So I'm looking for a cheap, but sound old damper to get my core charge back. db |
Doug Baker |
db... did you get your button? I've gone dark on this BBS due to tromping around the American west for a couple of months. Will visit Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse tomorrow... any messages you want me to pass along? Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken, I've had a couple of nibbles, but no real bites yet. The button is still outstanding as is the vent actuation rod. Tell Crazy Horse to keep his head up and to drink upstream from the herd! How was Bryce's Canyon? db |
Doug Baker |
That old expression... see Paris and die has been updated... see Bryce and die. It was great. The other Utah national parks are awesome too but IMHO, Bryce is the winner. Ken Did my source come up dry or was he too expensive? |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken, I asked for prices and never heard back!! db |
Doug Baker |
Hi Doug... hang in there with this fellow. He's very much in demand as a mechanical restorer-rebuilder of Brit cars and motorcycles as well as holding down a full-time marine engineer job plus family. He'll get back to you in time I'm sure. Selling stuff is not his main thing. I jogged his memory today. Be good. Ken |
Ken Shaddock |
Ken,thanks. If he's in to marine stuff, maybe he can help me find some ss fasteners!! db |
