Triumph TR6 - Reassembly & TA Repair 3

Here is the completed right side. Note the 3/8" stud at 6 o'clock. This is from Good Parts. The DPO had stripped out that stud and the hole was considerably enlarged so I was unable to tap as the hole was way too large. Richard's 3/8" studs are coarse thread where it meets the TA and fine thread where the axle bolts in. It's such a big, robust stud that I did not heli-coil that hole; just put thread locker on it. I will only torque it to about 18 lbs to avoid previous problems. I had to drill the brake backing plate and one mounting hole on the side axle to 3/8" to accommodate the larger stud. Today I am installing the brakes with new wheel cylinders and restored brake adjusters and later today I hope to have my first drive since April.

Nicely done, Bob!

Not a big deal, but I use metal lock nuts when I can.
But sweet, never the less

Nice Pics

Looking good Bob

I hope you have licked the health thing and can focus on the 6 going forward.

Thanks guys. Just to clarify; I was unable to tap for 5/16" - 24 stud on that one shagged up hole but did tap that one for the 3/8" stud. As I said, it was so big and bad and robust looking I did not see the need to heli-coil it so just used a 3/8" tap and stuck her in with thread locker at 18 lbs. No problem! BTW, health issue is not really an issue except for the downtime. Elective surgery to fix what ya broke up playing hockey is no big deal when your buddies are dealing with cancer. I am feeling quite pleased with what I have accomplished this summer and tonite I fired her up for the first time since April. Have you ever heard a TR6 with straight pipes and no muffler (at 11:15 pm with a neighbor who sacks out at about 10:00 pm)? Bad@ss noisy and he's not really a car guy! Tomorrow I bleed the brakes and hopefully install the Falcon dual stainless exhaust and take her for a little blast. The Good Parts TA bracket adjusters are installed but the back end looks like a Spitfire with the tires canted out at the top. Will be doing adjustments on that too over the next few days. Hope everybody dodged the hurricane.
Cheers,
Bob

If the Falcon is new Bob, good luck with that

Problem with the Falcon?

Depending on if your using the twin sport, twin sport with headers ...

just don't expect a 1 hour job
Don Kelly

Don:
Twin sport - no header. Kas Kastner said not to bother with it. :0)

Just thought I would toss this "before" pic in for comparison. It really was a mess!

Good to see you used the extra support bracket on the shock tower. Will help keep the stress off of the frame.
Looks very nice and clean
Well Done
